CanLex is a website hosting a variety of Open API's which aim to provide the Canadian legal community with advanced tools to take advantage of the legal information that is freely accessible online. CanLex is a LexUM / CanLII joint venture.
The CanLex website offers you two distinct methods of access. First, you can manually submit your queries, data and documents in one of the interfaces provided for that purpose. In this case, CanLex communicate anonymously with the corresponding API and display the results in your navigator window.
For users interested in integrating CanLex APIs into their own technological infrastructure, such as an intranet or a knowledge management system, registration is required and additional tools are made available in the Account section. The username and password allow your own tools to communicate in a transparent manner with the various CanLex APIs, and also makes it possible to aggregate their features.
For questions, comments and requests concerning CanLex or any of its APIs, please contact LexUM using the following email address: info@lexum.umontreal.ca.
CanLex will soon be offering various APIs facilitating utilization of your documents and the resources provided by CanLII. The first of these tools is the Reflex-API.
Reflex is the CanLII citator. The Reflex-API offers a way to enhance legal documents by inserting links to citations of case law and legislation.
The Reflex-API allows you to hyperlink your documents to legal information freely published on CanLII. By automatically adding hyperlinks to case law and legislation available online, the Reflex-API provides the ability to quickly identify and access the legal sources to which your documents refer. Unlike similar products available on the market, the Reflex-API links to freely accessible content, thus its consultation requires no subscription from users.
Although this API is in its beta phase, all efforts are being made to maintain a high level of quality. For more information on the scope, operations, and technology behind CanLII's Reflex, consult the corresponding page on the CanLII website: http://www.canlii.org/en/info/reflex.html.
CanLex is a joint venture bringing together LexUM and CanLII. CanLex offers tailor-made LexUM technologies to meet the integration needs of CanLII's users.
